Flying houses

Happy Friday everyone! Before I get in to these really awesome images I beg of you all for some feedback. That’s right I said beg. I need help. I’ve noticed recently a sharp drop in followers and would love to hear from you all how you think I can improve the blog. Let me know stuff ya’ll!

Ok these are digitally manipulated photographs by Laurent Chehere that are a metaphor for travel, to me full of whimsy and wonder. I need a little of that in my life sometimes. via Hi Fructose

The Best Looks of Cannes Film Festival 2012

There’s always a film festival of some sort going on, of course an excuse for the celebs to get all gussied up, the one going on now is Cannes. I think at some point in my life I need to go to Cannes… not necessarily for the film festival but that would be great too. Here are some of my favorite looks, I particularly love Eva Herzigova in that white diddy, so classy:

Have some random

Well we’ve made it across most of the country…have been chased by storms of every variety, I know we are supposed to be the chasers not the chasee but I’m not a fan of extreme weather so I’m more of a storm evader. Right now we are taking a break from driving in TN.Yee Haw. Cant wait to be back in NYC. Here is a collection of some Randoms For the day

Arizona Blues

Howdy folks, I know I’ve been slacking on posting but I have a good excuse! I’m mid road trip and it’s surprisingly difficult to post on the road even with eight different technologies. But I’ll try to post as often as I can while traveling. These two things are apropos of my current location, Arizona

Arizona Blue – Maria Karas captures colorful gowns in a picturesque desert setting for the spring-summer issue of QVEST Magazine. Starring Ilva Heitmann in pieces from labels such as Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent and Jen Kao selected by Cannon, the redhead beauty stands out against a clear blue sky. Lindsey Wixon gets doll-like for Vogue Italia

This editorial is in February Vogue Italia by Tim Walker. I am really liking the creepy doll factor here and I think this editorial has a marvelous Alice-in- Wonderland feel to it that’s dark and surreal. So I guess it would be more like Jan Svankmajer’s Alice than Disney’s.  I think there was a movie in the 80′s that had dolls coming to life and killing people…this doll looks a little like it would do that. I think I had nightmares about that movie after I saw it as a kid. That being said I also had nightmares about Scooby Doo so take that for what it’s worth.

Damien Hirst: To Dot, or not to Dot…that is the question

Damien Hirst’s exhibition,  The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011, opened at Gagosian Galleries around the world (surely there’s one near you). The photos here are from the Paris opening. Hirst has created (and sold for lots of money) unprecedented art (see shark and diamond skull below), but does that make him a great artist? I’m torn between art for art sake and enjoying the conceptual and visual qualities of a piece. Which brings me to these dots…I think personally it’s a crock. It’s not my cup of tea and I think it’s an unnecessary revisitation of 1960′s pop art. That’s my opinion. What do you guys think of Hirst’s work? Like it? Love it? Hate it?

Richard Mosse

I just recently stumbled across this photographer, and I love the infrared quality to these images in juxtaposition to the subject matter. Really amazing. Richard Mosse is an Irish born photographer ‘is known for his restraining and highly aestheticised views of sites associated with violence and fear, such as his 2008 depictions of the war in Iraq, and his large-scale photographs of aeroplane crash sites.’ In these images he uses ‘used Kodak Aerochrome – an infra-red film designed in the 1940s to assist the U.S. military in detecting camouflage – to photograph the people and landscape of the Eastern Congo. ‘

Photo Blast

Howdy everyone,  I’m feeling a little bit like I want to post some of my very own photos today…gasp! I know, crazy talk. This is a random collection of some of my faves that I’ve taken. I have a tendency not to really stick to one genre (color inside the lines? what?) so it’s a bit of a categorical mish mash. Like? Hate? Let me know!
