Happy Sunday! I’m counting down the days until we move (1 month, 6 days), moving across the country is always a tedious and exhausting (and exciting) task. So the more boxes we pack the more anxious I get. I’m mostly excited about the cross country road-trip endeavor that we’ll be embarking on to get to NY. First stop Vegas, just can’t help myself…all the lights and excess. We’ll be hitting several states I’ve never been to, and will probably never go to again. I have this image of us traveling down desert roads looking dapper and stylish, when in reality we’ll probably be dirty and disheveled. But hey a girl can dream.
All of that has nothing to do with today’s post, just a tangent (it’s my blog I can do as I like). These images are by Chinese artist Liu Bolin, who ‘disappears into his photographs, making a powerful comment on the individual and society. But his typical subject is himself. In his unique collaboration with BAZAAR, celebrated designers lose themselves in their work. Photographed by Liu Bolin.’ check them out at Bazaar here

Amazing, it’s nice to see some new additions to his work. The last two pictures have been floating around for a while, and they’re still very striking.
Bolin’s work is great.
I’m trying to work out how this collaboration with fashion designers fits in with his larger oeuvre. Normally, his work aims to provide political commentary on his country, China, whose government is steamrolling its citizens’ freedom in the name of development. Working with fashion does have the same ring of authenticity to me: the designer who puts her soul into her clothing and displays it for the world to see, hiding in plain sight.
If you like, you can check out an article I wrote last year on Bolin, here.
All the best with the move.
Thanks! Excellent article and blog!
