Gregory Crewdson and Myoung Ho Lee

I realize that these days a lot of people know Gregory Crewdson’s work, but I couldn’t help posting some of his work. I hadn’t really looked at it in such a long time, but before I went to college he was one of a handful of photographers that really inspired me to be a photographer. I had no idea what went in to creating his images, I just knew I was drawn to them. They’ve always evoked a reaction, good or bad, which I think is the sign of any great art. So here are some of his images that I particularly like (and one at the end of the whole set)

And these next images are by a photographer named Myoung Ho Lee, of single trees that he’s put a seemingly floating (thanks to a little digital help) backdrop behind to create these unique landscapes. I think these photos are incredibly clever.

Spring is Near

Every day I tend to read a myriad of entertaining websites…fashion sites, art sites…ya know. But I also have an affinity for other informational sites like AP, BBC, NYtimes…..the Weather Channel. Yes it’s true. I always need to know what the weather is everywhere. SF, NY, Marbella, Cayman Islands..Vegas…where ever. I like knowing where it’s warm and sunny all the time. Interestingly (I’m sure that’s debatable), right now  there’s a bit of a warm spell sweeping across the U.S. which means it’s actually sunny here for once. And because it’s sunny I’m thinking of spring…and all the fun things I’ll wear when it’s sunny and warm. Here are some trends for spring….. I’ll give you my rundown

1 Clear Shoes:

I feel the need to get this one out of the way because this is a true What the Fuck moment. Do not under any circumstances think you can pull this off. No one should wear these, or design these, or be in the same state as these. If you want people to see your feet then wear sandals, or go barefoot…anything is better than clear shoes. That is all.

2 Pleats

Now this is a trend I can get on board with, and do quite often. I love the fluttery quality of a pleated skirt..I especially like the Dior one above.

Clockwise from top left: Vanessa Bruno, Balenciaga, Rick Owens, Jil Sander, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent

3 Rounded Shoulders

This look I’m mildly indifferent about.. I don’t think it’s a particularly flattering shape as exemplified in the above images. But I know there are ladies out there that can make it look good

From left to right: Rue du Mail, Carolina Herrera, BCBG, Gareth Pugh

4 Black and White

This is one of those trends that’s sort of always in style but I think it’s workable, especially liking the BCBG

From left to right: Louis Vuitton, Erdem, Preen, Oscar de la Renta

5 Doily inspired outfits

I am a fan of doilies. And if you wanna wear one as a skirt I’m all for it. Totally in to this look

From left to right: Loewe, Burberry, Carven, Celine, Dior, Etro

6 Zig Zags

I think these are a little reminiscent of the 60′s and 70′s which are not decades I’m drawn to but most tolerable on the Burberry and Celine looks

From left to right: Alberta Ferretti, Etro, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci

7 The 20′s

We all know how I feel about the 20′s so I’ll say no more.

8 Track Trousers

I say unless your legs are as long as these ladies, use track trowsers sparingly.

9 Blue Print

I’m drawn to blue as a color and these prints make it a little extraordinary, love it.

From left to right: Phillip Lim, Costume National, Altuzarra, Jason Wu

10 Translucent Toppers

Read Number 1 and apply here. WTF people?

From left to right: Doo.Ri, Temperley London, Ralph Lauren, Rachel Zoe

11 Summer Suits

These are all stunning. More proof that living where it’s warm all the time is the way to go.

From left to right: Erdem, Julien Macdonald, Badgley Mischka, Temperley London

12 Lace Gowns

These are completely romantic and feminine without being out dated. Modern and lovely.

From left to right: Preen, Charlotte Ronson, Rebecca Minkoff, Creatures of the Wind

13 Cropped Tops

So I am a very liberal person, I believe that a woman can be any one she chooses to be and that you can wear what ever you want and who needs modesty and all that wear what ever makes you happy crap as long as that crap is not a crop top. It’s like, lady, you forgot half of your shirt. If you had to cut it off to make a skirt because you’re really poor then call me and I’ll buy you the other half of your shirt. I do not enjoy a crop top this side of 1987.

14 Pastel Separates

Be wary of looking like an easter egg, but done right I think this looks fresh and beautiful.

From left to right: Cynthia Rowley, Suno, Diane von Furstenberg, Cushnie et Ochs

15 White

White dresses are one of my favorites about warm weather. And I’ve finally learned that I can only drink white wine while wearing white so I’m all good to go for this one. That’s a killer Cynthia Rowley dress on the left.

From left to right: Cushnie et Ochs, Karen Walker, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu

16 Peplums

I think this is ridiculous but in a really fun way. I’ve got to get me a Peplum.

17 Super Florals

I prefer my flowers a little less acid-trippy but there’s a boldness to it that I like.

From left to right: Alexander Herchcovitch, United Bamboo, Jill Stuart, Rebecca Minkoff

18 Hot Pants

All the rules that apply to the crop top do NOT apply here. It’s my blog so I get to make the rules. And these ladies have amazing legs so I say show them off…but preferably while picnicing at the beach or park and not all willy nilly like.

Clockwise from top left: Derek Lam, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Diane von Furstenberg, Altuzarra, Calvin Klein, Sophie Theallet

18 White Heels

Last but not least we have these puppies. I say go for it as long as it’s not those dreaded Philip Lim ones. That heel is a blunt force object.

Which trends do you guys like?
